hosted by the South Muskoka Shield

In this, our second season of the GMHL, the All-Star Game will once again be played in front of a packed house in Gravenhurst, home of the Shield.  The Shield hosted such a fantastic event last year, we felt they deserved to host it one more time this year.  Details to follow shortly, but for now, enjoy the pictures and review from last year's inaugural game.

2007 GMHL ALL-STAR GAME

The 2007 GMHL All-Star Game was an outstanding event.

The GMHL, the South Muskoka Shield with owner John Klinck at the helm, and the throng of volunteers should be congratulated for a terrific night of hockey and entertainment.

The Skills Competition was extremely well organized, the opening ceremonies were outstanding, with the inclusion of the local Legion, local figure skaters representing each of the teams for introductions, the players looked sharp in our new GMHL All-Star uniforms, and ended with an uplifting appearance by Shield Captain Garrett Hamel, who is showing tremendous character battling back from a serious car accident.

Everyone involved with this league should be collectively proud of what we've accomplished in this, our league's first season.  From the ownership to volunteers, to players and parents alike, this night was the culmination of the hard work on the part of so many in the seven communities in which our league currently operates.

What a great night to take a break from the schedule, celebrate our league, and get ready for the stretch run of the regular season, and preparing for the upcoming playoffs, set to begin at the end of February.

And I'll tell you what:  There is an abundance of talent throughout this league, and don't let anyone tell you different.  There are even some NHL personnel that have expressed how impressed they are with the level of play in our league, and the quality of many of our players.

Oh and the score?!

I thought going in that the South had too much offense in this one, and I was right.  The South dominated the first two periods, scoring 5 in the first and 3 more in the second to head into the third leading 8-0.

Fortunately, the North stepped it up in the third, scoring three times to make the final 8-3.

It was a clean, up-tempo game that was fun to watch, and the players truly enjoyed the whole event.

A great night was had by all.
